Course & Program Outcomes (COs/POs/PSOs)
Course Outcomes (COs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) are essential components of an outcome-based curriculum. They clearly define what a student is expected to know, understand, demonstrate, and achieve upon successful completion of a course and the academic programme.
As an Autonomous College, Apex College, Makrana has the academic responsibility to design, review, implement, and periodically revise its curriculum in accordance with the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the quality parameters prescribed by NAAC. Accordingly, the learning outcomes are explicitly incorporated into the curriculum and syllabi to ensure that teaching-learning processes are purposeful, measurable, learner-centred, and aligned with the expected competencies of students.
Course Outcomes (COs) specify the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies that students are expected to acquire on completion of an individual course/subject. Program Outcomes (POs) describe the broader attributes and competencies that students are expected to develop by the completion of the entire programme. Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) identify the discipline-specific knowledge, skills, professional competencies, and capabilities expected from students of a particular programme.
At Apex College, Makrana, the Course Outcomes (COs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) are made available within the respective subject/programme syllabus itself. This ensures transparency and enables teachers and students to clearly understand the intended learning outcomes of each course and their contribution towards the overall programme objectives.
The inclusion of COs, POs, and PSOs in the syllabus also facilitates:
- alignment of curriculum, teaching-learning, and assessment with intended learning outcomes;
- systematic planning of teaching and classroom activities;
- development of appropriate question papers, assignments, projects, practicals, and other assessment components;
- assessment and measurement of students' attainment of learning outcomes;
